Meet Jessica and Michael!
Awww, this couple!! Michael is the son of my dear friends from high school. We were so close for years and then sort of drifted apart as we raised our kids. Dave and I were ecstatic when Michael’s parents called and asked us to get together. Little did we know we were going to be asked to photograph their son’s wedding! We told them we couldn’t because we had a wedding to shoot in Chicago the night before. I will admit we were flattered when they begged us to change our mind and even said that their son would not consider anybody else to photograph their wedding! OK, really? They must know that FLATTERY WILL GET YOU EVERYWHERE WITH ME! We agreed and worried how we could serve and give both couples the very best of our work despite the logistical issues (like driving for 5 hours in the middle of the night). As fate would have it, the pandemic hit and actually helped this dilemma. The couple whose wedding was in Chicago rescheduled completely. Phew! Crisis averted-no driving overnight.
We were able to give 100% of our time to Jessica and Michael’s wedding. We felt that God had a hand in all of this, as we were able to serve our friends and clients with the utmost love and devotion that we had always wanted to, without worrying about issues in getting Chicago.
Their wedding was on a gorgeous summer day and my high school friend’s father was the officiant of the ceremony. I always admired Michael’s grandparents when I was in high school. Who could have ever imagined 40 years ago that I would be photographing his grandson’s wedding? Life has such a peculiar and interesting way of coming full circle. We really bonded with Jessica and Michael, whom we hadn’t even met until just a about a year before the wedding. And the connection we felt with Jessica’s parents will last a lifetime, for sure as will our continued friendship with the groom’s parents. It’s so hard to see the future when you’re in your teens, twenties, thirties….. but just wait – the things that God has in store for you will truly astound you!
Since their wedding (I’m a bit behind on my blogging), Jessica and Michael have welcomed a baby boy into the world. He has been named after the bride’s dad and the groom’s dad (first and middle name, respectively).
Thank you so much, Jessica and Michael, for choosing me and Dave – Peggy Harmeyer Photography – to capture your wedding memories. We feel so honored and blessed to have been a part of your special day! And we love you over the moon and back! Thank you, too, for asking us to take photos of your new bundle of joy!
